Outdoor gardening is the most common form of gardening, but it is not the only form. Another way to do gardening is through aquascaping. If you want to learn more about this, keep reading below.
What Is Aquascaping?
Aquascaping is a form of gardening that involves cultivating different aquatic plants in the water of a tank, but it also involves using underwater weeding and rock arranging. If you have a fish tank, or if you have a pond, you can do aquascaping. Although aquascaping can be done in both fish tanks and ponds, it is more commonly done in fish tanks.
What Do I Put in Aquascaping?
In order to do aquascaping, you need to have a tank that has got the right conditions for aquatic plants to grow and thrive. Usually, you will cut up large rocks and stick them down into the sand or gravel at the bottom of your tank. Then you will place aquatic plants that can handle the same conditions together. You can also use aquatic plants that grow in water. For example, if you want to do aquascaping in a fish tank, you can place some water weeds at the bottom. Once you have done this, you can then introduce fish into your tank.
What Are the Different Types of Aquascaping?
There are various types of Aquascaping, classified based on the style and items you use. Check them out below.
1. Iwagumi Aquascape
This type of aquascaping is about symmetry and minimalism. The rocks and plants placed in the tank are done in minimal amounts and are symmetrical with one another. The focal points, however, are mostly the rocks. When doing this, you need to make sure your tank isn’t too crowded. With that, you should also place a minimum amount of fish to ensure that it stays minimal.
2. Dutch Aquascape
This style of aquascaping is the opposite of the Iwagumi one. While the Iwagumi aquascape tries to keep it as minimal as possible, Dutch aquascaping is all about color and shapes. You can go crazy with the plants, rocks, and whatever things you want to include in your aquascaping.
3. Natural Aquascape
As the name suggests, this type of aquascaping focuses on making your tank look as natural as possible. This means that you should only use the right amount of plants and stones to make sure that your little garden looks like a view you’d see outdoors. Its center uses driftwoods as a focal point.
Is Aquascaping Hard?
Aquascaping can be pretty hard work, but it can also be very rewarding. It makes for a hobby for those who love to do gardening but do not have a huge garden that they can work with. You can do it in an actual lake or pond, but most people prefer to do it in a fish tank. The only thing you need is a rock, some aquatic plants, and a tank. The rest is just your imagination and your creativity.
As you can see by now, aquascaping is a very elegant kind of gardening. It involves using your own imagination and creativity in order to achieve the right kind of aquarium, whether minimalistic or colorful. You can also use the right kind of plants to make your aquarium look like an actual stream or a lake. It’s a very refreshing kind of art.
